Sidewinder Co. is a case study to explore an AI assisted workflow for ideation that provides proprietary assets without extensive labor.

Preface

Adobe recently launched it’s own AI system called Firefly which works directly within Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Express to create visual assets from text prompts.

With this case study, I wanted to demonstrate that Adobe Firefly can be used within ideation and concepting to flush out ideas fairly quickly. The ultimate goal of integrating AI into a workflow is to find more efficiency in areas that would have previously been more time consuming.

Moodboarding

AI excels in its creation of swatch material for moodboards and can generate textures, patterns, images, vectors with the same amount of keystrokes as you might use to search an idea on Google.

All the swatches in the images of this section have been created with individual prompts targeting specific subjects.

Graphic Splicing

At the moment Firefly struggles to generate results for any prompts that include symbols, logos included. You can however, generate pieces of what you might need for your label or logo such as: keylines, complex shapes, 3-dimensional forms, etc.

In this study I used AI to generate vectors of snakes, grains and even cacti so that I could later combine pieces of elements to form a label concept.

Pattern Generation

You can now create a large library of vector patterns with a single prompt string. Without the use of AI assistance to generate these patterns, it would otherwise require many hours of time to prepare something of this caliber.

In future iterations of Firefly it has already been announced that it will be able to reference any artistic style to create similar imagery/patterning.

Ad Mockups

When you’re closer to presenting a few in situ options for your client, you can generate some pretty amazing photorealistic backgrounds for ad mockups.

Essentially, AI generation within Photoshop can allow you bypass having to search through overly saturated stock imagery.
